“Totally Bamboo” is made from a 100% renewable resource, the millennium's new "wood." Unlike other woods which have a 30 to 60 year growth cycle, bamboo grows back and can be re-harvested every 4 ½ years without re-planting. “Totally Bamboo” uses only the lower portion of premium grade bamboo because it is up to 16% harder and denser than all other hard woods, making it ideal for chopping. This product also uses opposing grain end caps to stabilize the boards, which are then finely sanded for a smooth surface that will last for years to come. For surfaces that will be used as cutting boards, a special, high grade, non-toxic, formaldehyde-free, food-grade glue is used. No artificial dyes or stains are used in the finish process. The beautiful honey-colored finish comes from the caramelization of the natural sugar of bamboo, whereas the dark finish is a result of the heating process in which the product is “cooked” to perfection.
